Once school has a door

Classroom readiness

Classroom readiness is a group sit, instructions in pieces, and a one-page list a Pakistani teacher can try for ten days. Not a Western IEP copied onto a page.

What to ask the teacher

Seat facing the teacher. Instructions in pieces. A warning before a change. The letter to school and classroom support are the parent guides. IEPs: Mahnoor on IEPs.

Asks a Pakistani teacher can try for ten days

Seat facing the teacher, away from the door. Instructions in pieces. Shorten the copying. Warn before a change. A quiet landing after break. None of this requires a new teacher. It requires one adult who will try them for ten school days and tell you what happened.

Speech and language in class need different asks: extra time to answer, the question repeated once, not copying while still listening. A child who “does not follow instructions” often heard only the first one. DLD.

When the school will not try

A dated one-page trial is harder to wave away than a conversation. We still write it. Sometimes a smaller setting is kinder this year: mainstream or special.

Punjab does not run those in every private school. The useful version here is a one-page list. Mahnoor on IEPs.
