Inside the hour

What a speech therapy session looks like

A speech session here is play with one job. We pick a sound, a word, a request or a turn, practise it until it is almost easy, then send you home with that same job — not a worksheet of twenty sounds.

The shape of the hour

You talk first, in Urdu or English, about the week. Then we play. Mahnoor Baloch leads first assessments and writes the speech plan; ongoing hours stay on that plan rather than drifting into “whatever the child fancied today”. The child does not sit an exam. We watch how they look, request, copy and recover when a word will not come.

Most of the hour is one target in several games, not several targets in one game. A late talker might practise requesting with a pause. A child who is hard to understand might practise one sound in a handful of real words. A child who stammers might practise one easy start. Then we stop while it is still going well. Pillar: speech and language therapy. How Mahnoor works: speech and language with Mahnoor.

What you leave with

One home job you can do in five minutes: a pause at snack, a copy of one word, a slower start to a sentence. We write it down. If it only works with our toys, it will not survive Tuesday. Related: speech at home, speech activities, talking program.

A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes, in person in Model Town or online. You do not need a diagnosis to start. If hearing has never been checked, that is often the first honest next step, not more word lists.

What a session is not

It is not a test the child has to pass. It is not drilling letters with a three-year-old. It is not a promise that “he will talk in three months”. Progress is attempts first — more looking, more trying, less frustration — and words later. If the hour is going wrong we change the game, not the child.

FAQ

A session — questions parents ask

How long is a speech session?

A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes. Ongoing sessions follow the plan. Younger children often do their best work in a shorter burst inside that time.

Do I stay in the room?

Usually for the first visits, so you see the prompt. Then we fade you the same way we fade a physical prompt on a sound. Under-threes: you stay. See early intervention.

What if they refuse to talk in the room?

Then we play and wait. Silence is information. Forcing a performance for the therapist teaches a child that talking is a test. We would rather hear one real request than ten copied words.

Can this run online if we are not in Multan?

Parent coaching and many language targets can. A sound you cannot hear well on a phone, or a feeding worry, usually cannot. Read online speech therapy.
