Inside the hour

What a motor and daily-skills session looks like

The hour is one skill: a grasp, a button, a sit that lasts, a texture they will touch. It is taught by our special education and ABA team. It is not licensed occupational therapy — we print that on the pillar so nobody pastes it onto Google.

One skill. Play with a purpose. Not a licence we do not hold.

Written by the Inclusive Developmental and Therapy Center therapy team — our Speech & Language Therapist, psychology and ABA staff. This page is awaiting its clinical review.

Who is in the room

Mahnoor writes the plan after the first look. The adult running the hour is from special education, ABA, school-readiness or psychology — not a licensed occupational therapist. When a child needs a formal hand assessment, sensory integration therapy or a medical opinion, we refer. Pillar: motor and daily skills. Honest scope: sensory support, honest limits.

The shape of the hour

We watch sitting, cutting, threading, drawing, a zip, a spoon. We pick the floor of the building that is thin — core, shoulder, fingers — not the letters on the page. Then one activity, repeated, stopped while it is still going well. More handwriting homework on a tired hand is how a child learns to hate the pencil. Related: handwriting help, pencil grasp.

What you take home

One kitchen-table job: playdough, pegs, a thick crayon, a button on a spare shirt. If it needs a clinic swing, it is not home practice. A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes.

FAQ

A session — questions parents ask

Is this occupational therapy?

No. We do not employ a licensed OT. We build handwriting, dressing, feeding-as-skill and regulation. Formal OT is referred out.

Will more tracing fix the writing?

Usually not, if the hand is tired because the body cannot sit. We look underneath the letters first.

Do you have a sensory gym?

No, and we do not sell one. Practical regulation in an ordinary room. If a child needs a clinic SI programme, that is a licensed OT.

Can this be online?

Coaching a parent through a dressing or pencil routine can. Hands-on assessment of a hand usually cannot. See online motor-skills coaching.
