Music-based work with autistic children
Rhythm can hold joint attention when words bounce off. The plan is still a way to ask, a sit, a stop — not a cure, and not registered music therapy.

What the research does and does not say
A 2022 Cochrane review (Geretsegger and colleagues, CD004381) found moderate-certainty evidence that music therapy run by music therapists is associated with global improvement, reduced total autism symptom severity and better quality of life. It found no clear difference for social interaction or communication immediately after therapy. That is a different profession. We use songs as a teaching medium and we say so. A goodbye song that actually ends
Many autistic children can start a song and cannot stop it. The goodbye that ends is a school skill. We practise it here so Monday morning is not the first time.

Do not borrow the Cochrane numbers for this room
Geretsegger and colleagues (2022, CD004381) studied music therapists. Moderate-certainty global improvement is about that profession. Low-certainty, no clear difference for social interaction is also about that profession. We use a drum. We do not wear their title. Read the review.
