Dressing, eating and toileting
Dressing, a snack and the toilet are the jobs that make a school morning possible. We teach them as steps, not as a personality project.

Where we usually start
Shoes or a zip. A snack they can open. Asking to use the toilet. Washing hands. Related: toilet training, picky eating — that blog is general guidance, and we still do not staff a licensed OT.
Autism and delay
Pace is this child. See autism, Down syndrome, home support.
Toileting that has stalled
Asking to go, clothing, a known stall, washing hands. School toilets are a separate plan from home toilets. Tell us both rules. Related: toilet training as general guidance — not a promise.
Picky eating may be life skills (sitting, trying) and sensory (texture) at once. Sensory support. We do not staff a dietitian.
Shoes, zips, lunch boxes
Last step first: the shoe on, the lid closed. Then hand back the step before it. Buttons and zips also sit with motor skill-building. Honesty about OT stays on that page.

Daily living — questions parents ask
They will not use the school toilet.
That is a separate plan: asking, clothing, a known stall. Tell us the school’s rule as well as yours.
Is picky eating a life skill or sensory?
Often both. Sitting and trying is life skills. Texture and overload sit with sensory support.
They will only eat two foods.
Sitting and one try is a life-skill goal. A medical feeding problem is a doctor. We will say which we think it is.
Ask about daily living
A short, friendly conversation is the best first step. Call, text or WhatsApp us — we’ll listen and guide you, with no pressure.
