The night before

How to prepare for an assessment

You do not need to rehearse your child. You need a few honest notes about an ordinary week, and anything that already exists on paper.

Ordinary week notes beat a rehearsed performance.

What to jot down

Words they use — Urdu, English, both. How they ask. How they cope with a no. Sleep, food, hearing. What the school actually said. The before your appointment page is the longer list. The two-minute check is a gentle start.

What not to do

Do not drill answers the night before. Do not keep them up late so they will be “tired enough to cooperate”. Do not punish a bad day in our waiting room. Tell us on WhatsApp if they cannot sit in it — we would rather meet you at the door.

FAQ

How to prepare — questions parents ask

Should I explain to my child where we are going?

A short, true sentence. “We are going to play and talk with someone who helps children with words.” Not “the doctor will test you”.

They are always worse for strangers.

Then that is the assessment. We will not ask you to translate every utterance so we can pretend they were fluent.

Do I need a referral letter?

No.

How much?

A consultation is Rs 1,500 and lasts up to 50 minutes. If anything extra is needed, we explain it first.
