Behaviour therapy — how Mahnoor works

Mahnoor works as a behaviour therapist alongside her speech and special-education training. International Behavior Therapist (IBT) 40-hour training with IBAO is in progress in 2026 — listed as training underway, not as a finished certificate. The work itself is individualized goals, behaviour management, communication, social skills and structured early-intervention strategies.

Behaviour work here is teaching a better way to get the same thing — not a punishment programme.

What “behaviour therapist” means here

It does not mean a punishment programme. It means finding what the behaviour is doing for the child — escape, attention, sensory input, a request they cannot say — and teaching a better way to get the same thing. That is the core of the ABA and positive-behaviour work on our behavioural therapy page, delivered with the speech and special-education lens she already has.

Hands-on experience goes back to 2022 at the Autism Resource Centre Multan branch (communication, behaviour and social-skills goals under senior supervision), the 2024 practicum at 4Dots on early-intervention outcomes, and ongoing learning-support work in an inclusive Early Years classroom at Beaconhouse Newlands. The IBT 40-hour IBAO course is additional structured training. It is not finished yet, so we do not print it as a completed credential.

What she will and will not do

She will write two or three goals you can see this month. She will coach you live, in Urdu or English. She will not suppress stimming that is not harming anyone. She will not sell a “cure”. If the behaviour is driven by pain, constipation, seizures or a hearing problem, she will say so and point you to a doctor first.

She is not a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. ABA hours at the centre are also delivered by our ABA therapists Atika Zainab and Noor Fatima. Child psychology — anxiety, low mood, family work — is led by Muhammad Salman Afzal. See who does what.

What the first month usually looks like

Week one is watching: when the behaviour happens, what it gets, what happens just before. Week two is one replacement skill — a way to ask, a way to wait, a way to leave a noisy room — practised in the session and at home. Parents get a short written plan, not a binder.

If asking is the missing skill, speech and behaviour share the same goal. That is why this page sits next to speech and language and communication. Sensory overload that looks like “naughtiness” is on sensory support — practical strategies, not licensed sensory integration.

Who this is for

Autistic children, children with ADHD, developmental delay, and children whose behaviour is the family’s only language for “this is too much”. You do not need a diagnosis to start. You do need an assessment so we are not treating the wrong thing.

Home practice: behaviour program. Overstimulation that looks like ADHD: ADHD overstimulation. Tantrum versus meltdown: the difference.

FAQ

Behaviour therapy — questions parents ask

Is she a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)?

No, and we do not claim that title. She is a behaviour therapist with special-education and speech training, hands-on autism and ADHD work since 2022, and IBT (IBAO) 40-hour training in progress in 2026. ABA sessions at the centre are also delivered by our ABA therapists Atika Zainab and Noor Fatima.

Can behaviour work happen without a diagnosis?

Yes. You do not need a label to teach a child a calmer way to ask, wait or recover from a no. Assessment still comes first so we are not treating the wrong thing.

Will you stop my child stimming?

Not if it is not harming anyone. Stimming is often regulation. We teach a safer alternative only when the behaviour hurts, blocks learning, or makes the day unlivable — and we say so in the plan.
