What we can discuss with you
- Current safety and how symptoms affect everyday life
- Sleep, intrusive memories and situations that feel difficult
- Your preferences about what to discuss and when
- Whether specialist trauma treatment or medical care is needed
Starting the conversation
You do not need to describe a traumatic event in detail to ask for an appointment. It is enough to say you would like trauma-related support. At the appointment, discuss what feels manageable and ask about the clinician’s training and approach before beginning trauma-focused work.
Understanding the scope of support
PTSD needs appropriate assessment. Recommended treatments can include trauma-focused CBT or EMDR delivered by trained practitioners. A general supportive session is not the same as either treatment; confirm the actual intervention and clinician before booking a course.
Read the background guidance: NHS: PTSD. This source explains the topic; it does not certify IDTC or an individual clinician.

Arranging an adult appointment

This page describes routine support. If someone is in immediate danger, seek local emergency medical help. Medication and psychiatric assessment require an appropriately qualified medical practitioner.
