Cerebral palsy (CP) is a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement, posture and coordination, caused by a difference in how the brain developed early on. It varies enormously — some children are mildly affected, others need a lot of physical support — and it often comes with strengths and challenges across communication, learning and daily skills too.

To be clear and honest about what we do: we are a speech, learning and behaviour team, not a medical or physiotherapy service. We support the communication, learning and school-readiness side of cerebral palsy, working alongside your child’s doctors, physiotherapist and wider medical team — we don’t replace them.

Where we can help a child with CP

  • Speech that’s hard to understand, or difficulty producing clear sounds
  • Being non-verbal or minimally verbal, and needing another way to communicate
  • Understanding more than they can express, and getting frustrated
  • Difficulty with early learning, attention and school readiness
  • Needing learning broken down and taught in small, patient steps
  • Support settling into school and being included
  • Building confidence, routines and independence in everyday skills

How we support communication & learning in CP, in Multan

  • Speech and language therapy to build clearer speech where possible, and to strengthen understanding and expression
  • Where speech is very limited, help exploring simple communication methods — gestures, pictures and communication boards (AAC) — so your child has a voice
  • Special education and learning support that meets your child where they are and builds skills step by step
  • Positive behaviour support and help building routines, attention and independence in daily activities
  • Working with your medical and physiotherapy team and your child’s school, so everyone is pulling in the same direction

🔴 What we do NOT do: we don’t provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, medical treatment, or manage the physical or medical side of cerebral palsy — those are led by your child’s doctor, physiotherapist and medical team, and they should always remain your first point of contact for your child’s health and mobility. We support communication, learning and school life alongside them, and we’ll happily coordinate with the professionals already involved.

A story that may feel familiar

This is a general, made-up example, not a real child. Imagine a five-year-old we’ll call Ayaan, who has cerebral palsy affecting his movement and his speech. His medical care and physiotherapy were already in place with his hospital team. What his parents wanted help with was communication — Ayaan understood everything but could say very little, and starting school was looming. Working alongside (never instead of) his medical team, the focus went onto clearer sounds where he could manage them, a simple picture board for the words that were hard, and school-readiness activities his family could do at home. Every child is different, but Ayaan’s story shows the specific slice of support we offer around CP.

An illustrative, general example — not a real child. Every child is unique; the only way to know what yours needs is a proper assessment.
FAQ

Cerebral Palsy: questions parents ask

Do you treat cerebral palsy?

Not in the medical or physical sense — cerebral palsy is managed by a medical team, and physical movement is led by a physiotherapist. What we support is the communication, learning and school-readiness side: speech and language, alternative ways to communicate if speech is very limited, and patient, step-by-step learning support. We work alongside your child’s existing medical and physio team, not in place of them.

My child with CP is non-verbal. Can you help?

Yes — this is an area we can genuinely support. Alongside working on any speech your child can develop, we can help you explore simple ways to give them a voice, such as gestures, pictures and communication boards. The goal is that your child can express their needs and be understood, which makes an enormous difference to confidence and to reducing frustration.

Do you offer physiotherapy for CP?

No. We do not provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy or any medical treatment, and we don’t manage the physical side of cerebral palsy. Those are led by qualified physiotherapists and your child’s medical team. If your child needs those services and doesn’t yet have them, please speak to your doctor — and we’re glad to work alongside whoever is already involved.

Can you help my child with CP get ready for school?

Yes. School readiness and inclusion is very much part of what our special education team does — building early learning skills, attention and independence in small, achievable steps, and offering advice you can share with the school so your child is supported and included. We tailor everything to your child’s abilities and work with, not against, their medical picture.

Is cerebral palsy something a child grows out of?

No — cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition, though it does not get worse over time, and a great deal can change for the better with the right support. Children learn, grow and gain skills throughout childhood. Our part is helping with communication, learning and school life; the medical and physical side stays with your doctor and physiotherapist.
